ABOUT

CaRPATOS is a strange but cute creature that inhabits the dark forests of the post-internet world. They have a slender body with a very long very bushy tail and large eyes. Their feet, which include an often poorly developed thumb, have soft pads on the undersides and versatile, sturdy claws for grasping and climbing. They eat small memes throughout the day and compliment their diet with quirky Soundcloud tunes. As a very hyperactive being CaRPATOS, needs to be constantly producing some kind of visual joke or experimental composition. They have several critiques of modern society which are constantly being oppressed by political correctness, moral literalism and liberal orthodoxy, this has led them to the artistic practices of crypticism, post-irony and new sincerity, in order to not commit suicide.

Juan Pedro Solorzano (he,she, they, them), also known as CARPATOS, is a Guadalajara (Mx) born visual artist, electronic music producer and performer. Their musical direction oscillates between industrial, IDM and deconstructed club.

Formerly a Jazz student at the Hamburger Konservatorium (DE), Juan Pedro slowly started to veer away from instrumental academic music after interrupting their study by being deported back to Mexico in 2019 (due to a migrational misunderstanding). During this time, they experimented with different kinds of genres while focusing on the creative process itself, rather than the study of music.

In 2020 due to COVID-19 lockdowns, they shifted completely to producing on the computer which enabled them to rely on themself only for the composition of their debut album DATA?. As a result of this experience they decided to formalize the project and develop their own aesthetics for it.

CARPATOS has continued to release music through local labels such as KREMA (MX), KRATER (MX) and spanish label Playground Records (ES), some of their songs being mixed and mastered by Tim Vitek, Andy Martin, Buena Tarde and Alejandro Merodio. They have also collaborated with visual artists: Mextasis (Nueva AdministraciOn) and Juan Diego Covarrubias (LUIS Galeria) for cover art / video art.

Juan Pedro recently relocated to Berlin and is currently working on their next album.
